Inline AI and Actions

Inline AI processes text you have already selected instead of starting a full conversation. Launch it from the Inline Toolbar in Apple Notes, or use it through Actions in other apps.

Before using it, configure an AI provider and prepare at least one Skill.

  1. Select the text you want to process.
  2. Choose a Skill in the Inline Toolbar beside the selection, or enter a one-time instruction.
  3. Wait for the result; you can stop the response if needed.
  4. Choose what to do with the result.

Available actions depend on the Skill’s presentation and the current result:

  • Replace: Replace the original selection with the result.
  • Insert below: Insert the result below the original content.
  • Copy: Copy the result to the clipboard.
  • Continue in Chat: Continue the current task in Assistant.
  • Retry: Retry with the same model.
  • Retry with Model: Retry with another enabled model.

Editing Skills prioritize a comparison between the original and the result. Standalone results such as translations, summaries, and explanations appear as Markdown. The Skill’s presentation metadata determines the mode.

  1. Select text in any app that supports text selection.
  2. Press ⌥⌘P, or choose Open Actions from the Notomo menu bar.
  3. Select a Skill or enter a one-time instruction.
  4. Review the result and choose Replace, Insert Below, or Copy.

Actions uses the latest synced Skills snapshot, so Apple Notes does not need to be open before you open the panel. Change the default shortcut under Notomo → Settings → Shortcuts.

Before Replace or Insert Below, Notomo checks again that:

  • The original app is still in the foreground.
  • The current selection still matches the selection submitted with the request.
  • The target app allows Accessibility-based writing.

If any check fails, Notomo does not overwrite the current content. It copies the result to the clipboard so you can review and paste it manually.
