Privacy and Local Data
Apple Notes always remains the source of your note content. Notomo does not create a replacement notes library or upload the entire Apple Notes database to a server.
Apple Notes data
Section titled “Apple Notes data”Depending on the feature, Notomo may read content through:
- Accessibility: Reads the current selection, current line, visible text, cursor, and window position.
- Apple Events: Reads the current note or invokes Apple Notes’ own formatting and creation operations.
- Database folder access: Reads the local Notes database for Quick Open, Backlinks, Templates, Skills, and Deeplinks.
The database is always opened in SQLite READONLY mode. Notomo never writes to or modifies Apple Notes through the database.
AI requests
Section titled “AI requests”AI providers receive only the content assembled for the current action, such as:
- Your question or one-time instruction.
- The selection, note context, and Skill instructions shown in the current request.
- Images or files you add.
- Recent conversation messages allowed by settings.
Providers cannot edit Apple Notes directly. Notomo confirms and performs Replace or Insert Below locally.
With Native Search, the request content above is sent through the provider’s tool flow. With Extension Search, Notomo uses only the processed current question to create a search request; note content and chat history are not sent as search queries.
Data stored locally
Section titled “Data stored locally”- API keys, OAuth credentials, license information, and the trial start date are stored in the macOS Keychain where applicable.
- Conversation history, retained images, and uploaded attachments are stored in Notomo’s Application Support directory.
- A synced Skills snapshot is stored locally so Actions remain visible when Apple Notes is temporarily unavailable.
- Standard preferences are stored in macOS application settings.
Under Settings → AI → Assistant, set automatic chat-history cleanup to 7 days, 30 days, or never, or clear all history immediately. Clearing the Skills cache or chat history does not delete notes from Apple Notes.
Anonymous usage data
Section titled “Anonymous usage data”Anonymous usage data is enabled by default and can be disabled under Settings → About → Privacy. Events contain only structured information such as feature name, provider, model, entry point, and counts. They never contain:
- Note content or selections
- AI prompts or responses
- Images, files, or attachment content
- API keys, OAuth tokens, or license keys
After you disable it, Notomo sends no new usage events to the analytics service.
