Permissions

Notomo requests macOS permissions only when a feature needs them. Open Notomo → Settings → General → Permissions to check Accessibility and database access.

Accessibility

Accessibility is used to:

• Identify the current Apple Notes window, editor, cursor, and selection.
• Listen for Markdown, Slash Commands, and custom shortcuts.
• Write formatting or AI results back to the original selection.
• Position floating panels near selections or related windows.

After clicking Grant Accessibility Access, allow Notomo under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. If the status does not update immediately, quit and reopen Notomo.

Note

Development builds (Notomo Dev) and release builds (Notomo) use different Bundle IDs and must be authorized separately.

Apple Events

Apple Events lets Notomo ask Apple Notes to perform operations it supports, including:

• Reading the full contents of the selected note.
• Applying certain Notes formatting.
• Creating Skills or Templates folders and built-in notes.

macOS prompts for permission the first time a related operation is used. Choose Allow. If you previously denied it, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation and allow Notomo to control Notes.

Apple Notes database folder

Database folder access provides fast, read-only support for:

• Quick Open
• Backlinks and note Deeplinks
• Templates and Skills sync
• Some Command Palette commands that depend on the current note

After clicking Grant Database Access, confirm the Apple Notes database folder indicated by Notomo in the file picker. Notomo saves a security-scoped bookmark for continued access.

The database is opened in SQLite READONLY mode. Notomo never modifies, deletes, or creates notes through the database.

Tip

If you only want to try Markdown triggers first, grant Accessibility permission. You can handle other permissions when you first use the related features.
